However, since you’ve gotten the essay question already last week, you should have prepped for this question and have more than 900 words prepped. The time you get is to reorganize and write the portions that you didn’t already prep. However you will not have time to read and study up, you’ll need to know the stuff in order to be ready to write once you click in. fully cited (anything you didn’t make up yourself, information from some place else needs to be cited) No quotations allowed except for primary sources (and limit the length of that quote, does not count as part of 900 word count). Use all the require readings as specified by directions (you do this by citing, and I do check) It’s ok to pre write stuff of your own, but once you get into the exam, you get 2 1/2 hours to organize, rewrite, finesse what you have pre written. And of course you need to make sure the topics that I require is included in your essay. You won’t see that until you click into the exam and the clock starts. Once you start and the question opens up, then you must finish within the period allotted. If you get kicked out, you should be able to get back in. Save your work (just in case, because this is a timed exam and you don’t have time to redo things from scratch). If you somehow lose everything then (on a PC try Ctrl Z) that works for me sometimes. So here is the part of the question you get beforehand: What are the lessons of history, and how do we learn from them and apply it to our world, our times? The history you must draw from comes from the period after your midterm (post Revolution and Constitution). Loosely, that’s 1800 to 1899. You must use the material from our class. I will expect to see material from Readings (Globalyceum), Lectures, assigned readings (anything I gave you via an article or even my writings in your overviews like the section relating history to the present), and primary sources. You MUST CITE or I might not give you credit for using the sources that are required (I check citations). The majority of your writing needs to be focused on history, not the present. If what you have prepared goes beyond and is different from what I provided, make sure to include it as well (to expand what minimum I’m asking for). Remember, this is an essay.
