The “prion paper” is a collection of information about prions. This packet of information is for you to be able to apply many of the concepts we have covered thus far to a real-life situation- Prion diseases. All of the references are listed at the top of question sheet- some information is much more technical than others. There are also some additional references below that may help with your answers. There is information about viruses (online lecture and an excerpt from the big cell book if you want to read it).

What kinds of concepts? Protein folding, protein misfolding and degradation (or not), importance of secondary structure, hydrophobicity of amino acids/proteins, western blot, a reason to use monoclonal antibodies over polyclonal antibodies.

How should you approach this assignment? Use the questions provided as your guide. You are not responsible for everything in the packet but you will see some of these questions again on exam 1.
