Philosophy Essay
Description
PHL 282: Ethics
Getting Started
Have you ever had to lead your family through change?
Have you ever been led through a major change at work?
Large changes (and even some small ones) can cause trauma for everyone involved. Not many people relish change. People tend to be creatures of habit. They like their comfortable routines. They often feel vulnerable and threatened when circumstances involve making new decisions or taking on unfamiliar habits.
But we all know change is inevitable. Life is a litany of slow change as the years unroll. None of us can remain the same throughout life.
And likewise, we know that the pace of change (technological change, at least) continues to accelerate. We might as well adjust to the need for change and learn to make the most of it.
McAdam has written fascinating thoughts along this line. Developing our abilities to change and help others through change—we can helpfully include these skills in our PIIP.
Instructions
Use the change-related tools McAdam provides to write a one-page “case study” of a change you are either going through right now, or see coming to your life in the near future.
How will you approach that change based on what you have learned?
