Personal Integrity Management Skills Paper
Description
PHL-282: Ethics
Getting Started
Personal Integrity Management Skills
Let us take a minute to see what we have accomplished so far in developing our Personal Intentional Integrity Plans, and to put the next set of activities in context. Thus far, in compiling your PIIP, you have:
- Taken stock of your Wheel of Life to see how well balanced it is.
- Worked on creating a stable hub for your life by preparing a Life Purpose Statement, a Life Vision Statement, and a Life Values Statement.
- Set some specific growth goals in at least two areas: Spiritual Growth Goals and Career Enhancement Goals.
In doing this, you have considered several spiritual principles of integrity that McAdam suggests.
Now it is time to turn your attention to what McAdam calls “Personal Integrity Management Skills” (PIMS).
- File: Intentional integrity.PDF: Aligning your life with God’s values
- Text: Moral choices: An introduction to ethics
Background Information
Many of us have a strong utilitarian streak in us. Utilitarianism seems to be part of the American way, even though we are not philosophically very sophisticated about this ethical position.
Instructions
- Review the rubric to make sure you understand the criteria for earning your grade.
- Read pages 72-77 of Moral Choices.
- Respond to the following questions in the discussion forum:
- Do you believe that actions can be judged right or wrong solely on the basis of their consequences? Explain your thinking.
- Utilitarians place ultimate value on happiness. How do you evaluate their priorities? Do you believe other things besides happiness have intrinsic value? If so, how might your different priorities affect your application of utilitarianism?
- Utilitarians place little if any significance on the motives behind people’s acts. Where do you feel “motives” enter the picture in distinguishing right from wrong?
- Your initial post is due by the end of the fourth day of the workshop.
- Read and respond to at least one of your classmates’ posts, as well as all instructor follow-up questions directed to you, by the end of the workshop.
- Your postings should also:
- Be well developed by providing clear answers with evidence of critical thinking.
- Add greater depth to the discussion by introducing new ideas.
- Provide clarification to classmates’ questions and insight into the discussion.
- You can also access the discussion forum by using the Activities button.
