Student Q&A
Q1. Format of a professional report – You talk in class about using a professional format for the report. What does this actually mean, can you give some examples? Answer: To me a professional report has a good first impression which is a nicely designed front page. It has a relevant Table of content that gives a good overview of the coming content and its structure; the body text is well structured with illustrations, text tables, bullet point lists, chapters/sub-chapters; is has a reasonable and not too little text on each page; and uses references/citations well. I think your question is so relevant that I will go through this in class, AND please find attached a separate document Download separate documentwith slides that detail these elements further for your information/inspiration.
Q2. Do you have an example of a report that shows kind of what you expect to receive? Answer: Part of the purpose of the assignment is for you to consider and decide how to write and structure a “professional” decision oriented problem solving report. And therefore providing you with an example of a GOOD report will defy that purpose. However, what I can do is to provide you with a report that uses a strategic problem solving method as a reference point. Here is a link to that report Download Here is a link to that report. Please note that this report is protected by copyright, so please do not share, copy or in any other form infringe on the copyright protection. The PDF document is for your personal use only.
Q3 Content for the different chapters in the report – We have drafted the outline for the final report based on the guidance provided during the class, and the PPT slides you provided. Please take a look and let us know how you feel and if there’s something that we are missing or something that you feel like we need to add, please let us know. Answer: I do not provide pre-evaluations of the content you plan to include in the report or outlines of the reports, but I will be happy to answer any specific questions or concerns you might have about the report, or to discuss specific questions you might have.
Q4 . Clarification of content in Introduction chapter – What kind of information or analysis do you expect for this part? Answer: In terms of your specific question “what kind of information or analysis do you expect for this part” about “Give relevant introduction to the key stakeholders (e.g. company/organization behind the value proposition, the users of the value proposition and similar).” This relates to a short introduction to the organization/company behind the value proposition/product you have chosen to deal with, and perhaps even also mentioning who in the company has direct responsibility or decision power when it comes to dealing with the challenge you have identified. It also includes a very short introduction to the customers who buy/use the value proposition. What I expect is a short intro to these key stakeholders, where the organization/company, the key decision makers, and its customers are normally considered the key stakeholders.
