2. Using OCLS, independently locate and read the following article that sets the stage for the conflict between environmental concerns and economic concerns:
a. Feiock, R. & Stream, C. (2001). Environment protection versus economic development: A false trade off? Public Administration Review, 61(3), 313-321.
3. Read the Legacy City Environmental Dilemma Resource file.
4. Then write an analytic, strategic, and realistic 750-1250 word (including references) editorial to be published in the paper that sets forth how the mayor should address both the concerns of the unemployed and the environmentally-conscious.
5. Use the subheadings shown in bold below:
a. Overview. Begin with an overview of the situation. Include in this section a direct quote from the Feiock and Stream article. (1 paragraph)
b. Opposing Sides. Describe each side of the argument. In other words, set forth the rationale and arguments behind each perspective. After reviewing all of the assigned course readings to date, properly cite at least one author from our course readings to support each side. (2 paragraphs)
c. Approach. After describing each side of the conflict, explain the Mayors approach to a solution. After reviewing all of the assigned course readings to date, properly cite at least one author from our course readings in this section. (1-2 paragraphs)
d. References. Include a properly formatted APA reference list at the end that includes all and only the sources you used in your submission.
6. Things to keep in mind:
a. You are ghostwriting an editorial for Legacy City Mayor Ron Anderson to be published in the local newspaper.
b. Strategies recommended should be rooted in course readings, evidenced by in-text references. In other words, be sure to back up all general statements with evidence grounded in our readings.
c. Include any potential dangers of your strategy and how to address them, should they emerge. In other words, anticipate opposition to the Mayors points and address them in the piece.
7. When you have completed your assignment, save a copy for yourself and submit a copy to your instructor by the end of the workshop.
