Running Head: HELPING PROCESS
Introduction
In undertaking a helping process, it is vital for the counselor to follow a collaborative process to empower the client to identify, manage and realize significant change for the help to be constructive (Fox, 2013). Thus, the three phases of helping process namely assessment, planning and implementation should be followed by professionals. Consequently, this paper examines the importance of these helping process phases.
Importance of Assessment, Planning and Implementation
Assessment of the client is a crucial step in the helping process since it helps in laying down the groundwork for successive implementation of strategies and interventions of resolving the client problems and enhancing solving skills of the problem (McClam & Woodside, 2012). Indeed, assessing the strengths of the client helps the professional in making an informed understanding the client. Similarly, working with the client in planning the treatment approach helps in creatively working with the client in achieving significant solutions (Fox, 2013). This will enable the process of treating the client’s problem to be persuasive that is critical in managing the resolutions identified. Implementation stage helps in strengthening the change gained by the client. Thus, it is critical in enabling the client to recover completely from the problems he has been suffering.
Significance of Documentation, Report Writing and Case Review
Use of case reviews, documentation and report writing is a significant approach since it allows the client in understanding the problem situation. This is because the approach presents the client with assumptions and patterns that help them to clarify the situation they are experiencing within their own understanding (McClam & Woodside, 2012). Similarly, this approach helps clients in establishing their change goals and preferred setting of changing. This is due to the approach presents the clients with diverse scenarios and goals they can pursue. Furthermore, the approach helps in creating a plan and for the client and take actions. Indeed, the approach employs a systematic structure that is adaptable through proven methods that help the client in planning the change and taking steps towards achieving the change. Consequently, use of documentations, report writing and case reviews is a crucial approach in enabling the client to treat the problems he is facing.
Strength-Based Approach
Strength-based approach in helping process emphasizes on the strengths and self-determination of individuals. Thus, this process is client led by focusing on the future strengths and outcomes that people are able to bring to a crisis or problem. Consequently, the application of this approach under the three phases of the helping is as discussed below.
Under the assessment stage, the professor is supposed to allow the client to identify areas he feels is proficient. Thus, at this stage the purpose of the counselor is to discover and discus the strengths client (Fox, 2013). This allows the process to establish positive expectations and the relationship between the client and counselor is centered on positive attributes. Once a comprehensive assessment of the client is identified, a planning process is undertaken. At the planning stage, the counselor should help the client to reflect and understand on his developing strengths and strengths of his peers. This is done by helping the client to reflect on the strengths they are capable of attaining to treat their problems (Fox, 2013). Thus, the clients are encouraged to rely on fruitful manageable strategies that are able to offer a growth-fostering mindset. Similarly, the approach at the implementation stage is done by creating a mindset in the clients of viewing the impediments as challenges they should face instead of avoiding.
Ethical Consideration under Helping Process
In undertaking the helping process, one is supposed to be committed to the ethical standards of helping profession. One of the ethical behaviors a helping profession should observe is respecting the self-determination of the client (McClam & Woodside, 2012). This implies that the client should be allowed to make independent decision affecting his health, dignity and safety. Similarly, professions should ensure that their conduct do not cause to the clients. Furthermore, professionals should treat clients and be responsible for their actions.
