Discuss the Essay on Progressive Reform.
1521th chapters
You’ll need a thesis statement as well as specific historical evidence to back it up. You can’t just say, “In the 1910s, there was violence against African Americans.” You’ll need proof to back up your claim. Take, for example, The Tulsa Riot, and describe it in detail. Give more than a list of individuals or events. You must describe who or what they were, as well as how they are related.
To cover it, you’ll need at least 2-3 double-spaced pages (1000 words).
Talk about Progressive Reform. The textbook can be found in Chapters 17 and 18 of the book.
This could be divided into two categories: social reform and political reform.
Take a look at the Progressives and their motivations.
Consider the Social Gospel, Settlement Houses (Hull House), Temperance (Frances Willard, WCTU), the Mann Act, Jack Johnson, Margaret Sanger, and other concerns about social purity.
Political: consider efficiency, municipal reform, labor regulations (especially in light of the Triangle Fire and efforts to combat child labor), “trust busting,” and government regulation (particularly in the meat packing industry and the Pure Food movement don’t forget the Jungle and the Poison Squad). Take a look at the muckrakers’ role. Political figures such as Theodore Roosevelt and others are well-known.
