In all likelihood, the specific topic that you are considering right now is not the topic you will ultimately research once you begin working with committee.

Finding a dissertation topic is much more than researching a topic with which you have an interest or passion. Your topic will originate as a very broad concept that will be narrowed to a specific topic as you read extensively the empirical research surrounding your concept.

To justify a research project such as the dissertation, there must be not only a need for the research but also a space in the literature that the proposed research can fill.

When identifying a researchable topic, there are a few things that should be considered:

• Is it interesting to you? MY ANSWER- My choice of topic is – Understanding the Impact of Community and Familial Leadership in the Development of Students.

So yes, at this time the idea that I have in mind is very interesting to me because I am currently an Instructor for a School and I would like to learn how I can improve the environment for the students to learn.

• Is it interesting to anyone else? ANSWER- I have discussed my chosen topic with my mentor as well as my co workers, family and the Chair of Communication Department. All are very supportive and interested in how I can provide additional research to the chosen topic.
• Is it defined as a need in literature? Please research and provide answer to how studying impact of leadership in students is needed. Provide synthesis reference
• Is it original? Please research how this idea of research how to make students can benefit from a community environment is original and needed
• Is it feasible? The topic is very feasible as I am already in this field of employment. Reading the past few peers reviewed articles advising that I stay in my field of study as an Instructor I am exposed to an environment that will provide me with many opportunities of observation and data collection.
• Is it within your range of competence? Although there is a possibility that over time my topic may change, I do believe I have chosen something within the change of my competence.

As an instructor interacting with students weekly it will be an interesting challenge for myself to research and identify how a more supportive community-based foundation and environment can affect student learning and knowledge retainment.

• Is it ethical? From what I do know my choice topic is ethical I do plan on implementing come sort of process available to all students at the beginning of each semester to allow those who would like to participate.
• Does it align with your program of study? My choice study does align with my program of study as it does build on the knowledge and tools of Education researching another way to identify different scopes of Leadership and community interaction.

Whether a topic is feasible is an important consideration. In what ways, can you ensure that your topic is feasible? How do you know when a topic needs to be narrowed to something more specific in order to be feasible?

How does your proposed broad concept align with your program of study? How will researching a topic based on your concept contribute to your field of study? Explain.

Gather all this information and explain how studying the impact of community and familial leadership aligns with the current profession of being an instructor. How till researching this topic make me a better instructor and contribute to the field of leadership.
