The Cumberland Research Interests Essay
- What are your research interests in the area of Information Technology? Why are you inspired to research in this area, and why do you think it is important to research in this area?
My Research interests in the area of Information Technology is software engineering. The software engineering and project management course provide an overview of the software engineering process, what the process includes and the different methods of conducting the process.
My inspiration to research in this specific field is derived from the other specializations that software engineering offers. The specializations include advanced systems design of which I have had an interest in since my childhood. Today’s highly engineered operations like building and aircraft rely on intelligent subsystems to convey good performance.
The reliance on intelligent operations has enabled companies to have a high demand for new generation integrated products that have increased capabilities. Advanced systems engineering focuses on the components that make products more efficient.
- Why did you select PhD in Information Technology? Why did you select University of the Cumberland’s?
I selected a Ph.D. in IT due to the components of the program and the benefits it adds to those who pursue it. A Ph.D. in Information Technology encompasses training that is research based in the technical theory advancement (McMahon, 2009).
A Ph.D. allows one to concentrate on a area of information technology such as information systems or computer science. The University of Cumberland which is in Williamsburg offers online Ph.D. in IT that one can comfortably complete at home.
The online Ph.D. program consisting of professional research and online courses enables distant learners to access the education program from any place. The institution’s top rank as a national university that offers the most affordable online Ph.D. program, makes it the most sort university for enrollment.
- As an individual, what are your strengths and weaknesses and how will they impact you as a PhD IT student?
An individual’s strengths and weaknesses may turn into pathways that will ensure one’s overall success in their field of education. One of my greatest weakness is being quiet during classes which are assumed to be because of my shyness. My quietness is brought by me being a foreign student in a foreign country thus not being able to speak native English.
I do not consider this a big deal though since after completion of my studies I plan to work in my country. One of my strengths is that am a good researcher who is usually enthusiastic to find answers to questions. This strength will enable me not to have issues with assignments requiring me to conduct research as a Ph.D. student in Information Technology.
- Where do you see the future of Information Technology going and where do you see yourself in this mix after obtaining PhD in Information Technology from UC?
Technology has been evolving to new levels from past decades which has been leading to a decrease in operating time and costs. For businesses to be sustained for a longer period of years new technologies need to be developed (El & Brzozowska, 2017). The emerging IT technologies can be seen as the future progresses in the field of Information Technology.
Some of the technologies include machine learning and artificial intelligence. Machine learning is the study of statistical forms computer systems use to perform tasks without relying on instructions. Artificial intelligence involves creating machines that have human intelligence which can carry out activities like speech recognition. Upon completion of my Ph.D. program in IT, I would embark on ensuring some of the future technologies are introduced in my native home.
