aspects of well-being are the focus of the mission and vision of your field placement
organization?
Describe a community associated with your field placement – keep in mind it does
not have to be a geographical community. [Check the "community" definition on the
"Overview: 2nd-year MSW Community Partnerships Specialization" document.] The
definition from the community partnerships document has been added to this post.
Provide an example of a strategy your field organization uses to promote/facilitate
well-being in the community and critique what this engagement looks like and its
impact. If they do not engage in this way, how would you initiate community
engagement if you had the responsibility to do so?
Community: A community is a social unit based on common location, interest,
identification, culture and/or activities. A community focus provides the foundational
core of the community partnerships curriculum framed around:
Agency: Georgia Public Defender Council
Agency Mission Statement: The Georgia Public Defender Council is an independent
agency within the executive branch of the state government of Georgia. Our mission

is to ensure, independently of political considerations or private interests, that each
client whose cause has been entrusted to a circuit public defender receives zealous,
adequate, effective, timely, and ethical legal representation, consistent with the
guarantees of the Constitution of the State of Georgia, the Constitution of the United
States and the mandates of the Georgia Indigent Defense Act of 2003; to provide all
such legal services in a cost efficient manner; and to conduct that representation in
such a way that the criminal justice system operates effectively to achieve justice.
