Choose an event from a family-related television show and analyze it using TWO of the contemporary theoretical perspectives introduced in The Family-Chapter One by Philip Cohen (feminist, exchange, symbolic interactionism or modernity), which is found below this paragraph. Discuss the ways that the two perspectives understand the event differently and similarly. Your analysis should demonstrate your understanding of the theories and your ability to apply them to specific situations.
Feminism – a theory that seeks to understand and ultimately reduce inequality between men and women
Exchange – the theory that individuals or groups with different resources, strengths, and weaknesses enter into mutual relationships to maximize their own gains
Symbolic Interaction – a theory concerned with the ability of humans to see themselves through the eyes of others and to enact social roles based on others’ expectations
Modernity Theory – a theory of the historical emergence of the individual as an actor in society and how individuality changed personal and institutional relations

2.A brief description of the two theoretical perspectives. Be sure to be clear and specific. Also cite your source (Cohen, page). (5 points)
3.A paragraph or so discussing how Perspective 1 would interpret the situation presented. (10 points)
4.A paragraph or so discussing the way that Perspective 2 would interpret the situation presented. (10 points)
5.A paragraph or two comparing and contrasting the ways that the two perspectives interpret the situation presented. (10 points)
6.All outside sources should be cited properly within the text and in a bibliography. (5 points)
7.Your writing should be clear with proper grammar, paper organization and spelling. (5 points).
