How to Create Job Description Standards for Your Company
The job descriptions you find on job boards and in advertising aren’t created to explain the job; they’re written by HR personnel who are either impressed with their own MBA or attempting to persuade you that they have one. It’s often difficult, if not impossible, to figure out what the advertised job entails.
When running a small business, you must be able to communicate effectively with your staff about their roles, responsibilities, and how their performance will be evaluated and rewarded.
A job description is divided into two parts: Company Standards and Position Standards. I’ll go through the Company Standards in this essay. Creating Job Description Standards for Your Company
Make a list of qualities you want all of your staff to possess. The list should be roughly 10 things long and express the key values you wish to see in your company. It might include things like how you interact with clients, how you dress, or other values you wish to instill in your company’s culture and image.
If you don’t create a culture and image for your company, your employees will, and it won’t be one you like.
Here’s an example of a set of corporate guidelines that I created for our development firm. Creating Job Description Standards for Your Company
Standard Operating Procedures:
Serving the needs of our customers is the only way for Company Name to grow and succeed. The following guidelines will help us recognize and achieve this aim.
- Company Name is a tiny business that relies on the talents and passion of its employees. All workers must first encourage and assist one another in achieving the success we all deserve. In our office, an attitude of “not my job” has no place.
- All construction work must be completed in accordance with the Home Owner’s Manual, which all personnel must carry on hand at all times while on the job.

- The customer is always the customer, even if they aren’t always correct. They will be treated with the deference they deserve.

- Every employee is accountable for ensuring the client’s comfort and predictability throughout the construction process.
- In the minds of our customers, we will set reasonable expectations.
- We shall communicate frequently and efficiently with each other and with the client. Bad news or difficulties will be disclosed as soon as possible so that the issue may be handled and resolved.
- We will always show respect to our coworkers, employees, trade contractors, suppliers, and other vendors.
- We will dress and conduct ourselves in a professional manner.
- We will arrive for appointments on time.
- We shall see every interaction with our clients and vendors as a chance to improve the image of Company Name.
- We shall offer a valuable product with pride.
