The work of art I chose for this discussion is the Creation of Adam, painted by Michelangelo in c. 1512. This is one of the most well known paintings in history and is seen everywhere. Michelangelo was an Italian artist where his best work was during the Renaissance. He was not just known for his historic paintings, he was also a poet and sculpture. This type of
art is Western Culture because it was during the Renaissance and is considered western art. The Creation of Adam is Dionysian because it goes to show that God created us in his image and likeness and everyone who will look at this painting will have their own feelings or understanding of it.

As viewers of this piece of art, we understand why it was painted but we could have a personal feeling towards it. My response to looking at this piece of art is dionysian, I base my own understanding of this artwork by studying it and realize what is going on. I look at the history of it, understanding why the artist chose to paint it and why. This painting is beautiful, God is giving life to Adam in this painting and shows are created to
look like God. The craft of the Creation of Adam speaks for itself, the historic value that this painting holds cannot be beat. I have seen this painting in movies, videos, and have heart many people talk about the significance of this. This painting shows the love God has for us and shows he is the creator of all humans. I would recommend this art work to others
because it shows the birth of humans and see the true meaning of this artwork.

William Shakespeare, Sonnet 55, a poem published in 1609. I think that this would be influenced by western literature because this is British literature. Based on how I interpret this poem, I believe that this would be an approach is Dionysian because it’s saying that he is typically hard on himself, with no self-confidence, but then suddenly gets a burst of confidence.
Which to me is impulsive, an example of Dionysian. I feel this is an excellent example of art from 1609; Shakespeare quotes, “ Not marble, nor the gilded monuments Of princes, shall outlive this powerful rhyme” which is calling his work immortal, that it would surpass his judgment day when most of his Sonnets are about him lacking self-confidence until Sonnet
55 when he says his work will live on past his life. If you think about it, it did; we are still reading and writing about it to this day. I feel that this reading was a little hard to understand, but given that it was written in the sixteen hundred is now the twenty-first hundred, but all in all, a good piece of poetry. I would recommend this to others for the simple reason that
Shakespeare’s work is outstanding and deserve to live on for decades to come.
